The Doppelganger is a player that could potentially be on either side of the game. On the first night the Moderator wakes up the Doppelganger to have them choose a player. The Moderator taps that player on the shoulder and that player reveals their card to the Doppelganger. The Doppelganger is now the same role of the chosen player with all abilities and victory conditions.
The balance effect the Doppelganger provides is based upon the total number of special characters held by either side. If there are more Werewolves than special Villagers then the Doppelganger is more likely to duplicate the Werewolves. If the special villagers aren't very powerful then the balance still tilts towards the Werewolves, because the players will know the Doppelganger is in the game and will be less trustful of other players.
The Doppelganger Variations[]
- The Doppelganger silently takes the role of the first player to die. The Moderator must be sure to wake up any special role that died on the second night to activate their special abilities or see who holds the role now.
